The ceramics are used in the impact face, together with supporting material such as aramid or Polythene. They can stop various threats including ammunition penetrators (Armor Piercing AP). These systems are often used for personal protection (vests), armor vehicles and aircraft.

Ceramics come in different forms (square, rhombus etc.), compositions (SC, BC, etc.), sizes (2×2, 5×5) and thicknesses.
